Joseph Kaknes at the Hidden Garden Art Gallery

Artist Joseph Kaknes (1950-2014) spent many years in Costa Rica, his adopted homeland. Joe's artistic style, influenced strongly by Vincent VanGogh, captured his love and spirit of the many places where he lived, including his adopted hometown of Punta Islita. During an old interview with the Massachusetts newspaper, The Gloucester Times, Joe told them, "When I die, the first guy I'm going to meet at the Pearly Gates is Vincent (VanGogh)." We 're sorry that it came so soon; he will be sorely missed.

Heavily influenced by Van Gogh, Monet, and Sisley, Joe's works exhibit his own individual artistic vision. The boldness and passion of his brush strokes and knife work bring life to each painting. His work reflected his love of the ocean and of the natural environment. Whether the subject matter is the coast of New England or the Costa Rica, Kaknes captured the spirit of the place and the moment in new and exciting ways. His works are included in some of America's most prestigious private and corporate collections.
