Born in rural England, Jonathan Minsull spent his childhood on farms; exploring the fields, woods and rivers. Attending college in Brighton, England, he studied illustration and worked as an illustrator in London before taking post-graduate courses in Art and Design and taught art for several years. Later, working with schools, public areas and clients, Minshull specialized in murals and trompe l’oeil (an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion which depicts objects in three dimensions) all while producing original paintings.
"Nature has always held a beauty which fascinated me," he tells us, and he has followed this love to the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica where the intensity and diversity of the natural environment is unparalleled. For Minshull, the allure of the tropical jungle in Costa Rica is undiminished and he continues to be inspired by the intense colors and beautiful landscapes, as well as the lives of the local people here.
